Microsoft and Meta Collaborate on Windows Volumetric Apps for Quest 3

On May 22, just a few months after Microsoft abandoned its own Windows mixed reality plan, the company announced today that it is collaborating with Meta to launch a mixed reality application called Windows Volumetric Apps. This allows users to utilize the passthrough feature of Quest 3 to manipulate and operate 3D models in a mixed reality scene. Compared to Apple Vision Pro’s native integration of 3D model support in formats such as USDZ/OBJ, during the previous test of Quest 3, it was found that this headset does not natively support viewing 3D models in a mixed reality scene.

Currently, users can only achieve relevant experiences through a ‘hobbyist’-made test software called Caddy on the App Lab platform. At present, Microsoft’s move can be said to inject a shot in the arm into the headset ecosystem of the Quest platform and can be called the ‘best developer’. Microsoft said that developers can register for the preview program today (visit here). If they receive an invitation later, they can access this application.

We will continue to pay attention to the specific experience of this Windows Volumetric Apps application.
