Douyin VR Live Renamed to Douyin XR with New Features

On November 3rd, according to official PICO news, Douyin VR live broadcasting has been officially renamed to ‘Douyin XR’, supporting horizontal/vertical/panoramic video viewing and new MR mode switch functions. Below are the updated features of the Douyin XR application: The content allows for multi-mode Douyin videos such as horizontal/vertical/panoramic, and supports full modes of Douyin live broadcasts including programs/sports/panorama.

Users can adjust video screen size and depth, and the MR mode switch has been added to allow toggling between see-through and virtual backgrounds (supported only on PICO 4 Ultra and above devices).
Spatial videos shot through devices such as PICO/Vision Pro/iPhone can be uploaded to Douyin after completion in PICO video and then distributed to Douyin XR. A new 2D to 3D algorithm has been added, enabling 2D videos to become spatial videos.

Panoramic videos support 180-3D/2D and 360-2D panoramic videos and live broadcasts. The virtual interface naturally blends with actual content, and the live stream can carry spatial information, making the content more realistic.
Gesture recognition is integrated into the Douyin XR App, supporting gestures including selection, dragging, resetting the view, and returning to the home page. VR gifts support grasping and throwing, with quick trigger to like, long press A button to invoke voice-to-text input, and shaking the joystick to skip to the next video.

As previously reported, the PICO 4 Ultra mixed reality MR headset was released in August this year, equipped with the second-generation Snapdragon XR2 platform, supplemented with 12GB of memory, and, with an overall weight of 276 grams at the back and 304 grams at the front. The headset is equipped with three types of precision sensors specially designed for MR mixed reality, including four environmental tracking cameras, dual 32 million color see-through cameras, and an iToF depth-sensing camera.

It supports 8 million pixel stereoscopic high-definition color see-through, with a refresh rate of 72 Hz.
